Around The globe women want the same things when it comes to fulfilling their beauty needs. But just to be certain we conducted a survey in seven countries where we are selling Mary Kay products to see from the women themselves what their needs are when it comes to beauty. Of Course we’re selling Mary Kay products in the United States and so the US was naturally included in the survey. But other countries such as The Ukraine, China, Russia, Brazil, Korea and Mexico were also included. The women were selected by age group and life style and to ensure fun was had by all they were permitted to bring along a girl friend. In each session we got to learn a little more about these gal’s likes and dislikes concerning career, their use of technology and their feelings about beauty.
When we chatted with these women around the world our goal wasn’t selling Mary Kay make up however, rather it was to find out what women really wanted in the area of beauty. One of the things they talked about to their Mary Kay representative was how they shopped for their skin care and cosmetic products. For most of the women, it was “anything goes”, meaning that they purchase their beauty products from all over — super centers, department stores, direct sellers, specialty stores and online. It’s usually about what’s convenient for her. So you could say that one thing women want when shopping for beauty products is the EASY ACCESS that selling Mary Kay provides
Lets just have fun was the motto of the day as we learned more about what women really want in their beauty needs. “We want control of the experience” they said “some days me and my girl friends go out to just try on make-up” said Julie Sanders “we want to be able to try it on, see how it feels, see how it looks, and put it back if we don’t like it, its a girls prerogative to change her mind if she wants to”. “If Julie doesn’t think its cute on me then I won’t buy it” added long time friend Stacy Coontz. Turns out that friends and family have a great deal of influence over a women’s buying decisions when it comes to making her purchases. Yes, above all I think women want to have choices, look pretty, get pampered and have fun says beauty and fashion expert Londa Schexnayder ” and giving them that is the reason you become a Mary Kay representative.
Women are also interested in having a trusted advisor to direct them and guide them in their purchases. People who are good listeners and have their best interest at heart. “Its nice to have some one you can trust to tell you the truth about what works and why it works” they said. Some one who can take a holistic approach and advise them on their fashion and jewelry as well as the right shades and colors that fit a particular occasion especially in an industry that changes every season. All the advantages that come along with working with a representative selling Mar Kay.
Women are happier when they feel they have choices and are in control, of the buying process. Seeing as how women have always wanted these experiences none of this should come as any surprise. When shopping for her beauty needs she wants to just throw out the rule book is there is such a thing and have her choice of who, what, when and where she makes her purchase. “its my face, my money, my decision” they said.
Beauty, control, easy access, personalized servicewhat every woman wants and what marketing Mary Kay is all about. “I’m not in this just to sell make up” says Londa, “Its about empowering women to look, feel and be their best and no one does it better than Mary Kay”. What more could a woman want?
Well, that’s a good question, and the answer is “OPPORTUNITY THEY CAN TRUST! I think this is one of those areas that’s not “new” as far as women seeking out people and opportunities they trust is concerned, it’s a matter of the degree of importance. There have been so many instances of things in society over the past years that have really shaken women’s trust in institutions and the people behind them. That’s what has brought us to this place we are today, where women just will not do business with people and companies that they don’t trust.
“My success and the success of thousands of women like me is what creates the Mary Kay success story” says Londa, “the companies’ sales volume is simply the total sales volume of all the successful independent representatives selling Mary Kay. The Mary Kay opportunity has leveled the playing field for women all around the world regardless of race, creed, color, language, or economic background. according to these women the appeal flexibility, freedom, being your own boss, and don’t forget the money. Combined the benefits are quite appealing.
With all the pros going for it..it was hard to come up with any cons so we ask. “it’s not a get rich quick system said Londa but if you’re willing to work with the same commitment that you work for others the sky is the limit.
Our survey now concluded the results are in when it comes to shopping for their beauty needs women want: control, flexibility, no pressure, the flexibility to try things on, a pleasant shopping experience, good products, have fun, knowledge staff, and control over the whole experience. And just for good measure will throw in the incredible opportunity that selling Mary Kay provides.
